Learn to sail on weekends, and meet other students who sail!

Queen’s Recreational Sailing Club is an entirely student run club. We give quality sailing lessons to students with little to no sailing experience, and to those with more experience too. All our instructors are Sail-Canada-certified, and many of them compete for the Queen’s Varsity Sailing Club.

We are based at the Kingston Yacht Club, located minutes from campus and from downtown Kingston. We sail in Flying Juniors and 420 class boats, and we occasionally go sailing on larger keelboats.

We offer five 3-hour sessions a week, held Friday to Sunday. Generally, sessions run Friday from 1:30-4:30, and Saturday and Sunday from 11-2 and 2-5, every weekend from the beginning of September to the end of October.

For a modest fee, students can participate in at least one session every weekend, until the end of the season… what a great deal!

What to bring

Here’s what we recommend to bring along:

  • Close-toed shoes
  • Sunscreen
  • Water
  • Sunglasses
  • Sailing-appropriate attire
  • Dry clothes to change into after practice

No lifejacket required. We provide that!

How to join

The official sign-up takes place in early September at Club Night or at a booth during the Sidewalk Sale (look for a rigged sailboat at the booth). If you can’t make those, just email us.

If you have questions, please contact recsail@gogaelsgo.com and we will answer them as soon as possible. Happy Sailing!
