The Queen’s Sailing team attended the 81st Colour Awards hosted by Queen’s Athletics & Recreation, where we were presented with the Queen’s Varsity Club of the Year award! Thanks to generous alumni donations, we came in 2nd place in this year’s March Matchup - winning $1,000 for the team! Thank you to everyone who participated.
The Queen’s Sailing team had an extremely successful season. We started the season off by welcoming 15 new athletes to our large team comprising a total of 50 athletes. We will be saying goodbye to 13 athletes this year, and thus we needed a big intake. With new athletes and new coaches, our focus was building the team for the future.
Our team holds practices Monday - Thursday from 3-6 pm and Tuesday - Thursday from 7-10 am, in addition to mandatory strength and conditioning sessions. We compete in 2 conferences: in Canada the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association (CICSA), and in the US the Mid Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA).
Some notable achievements of our season include: Team Racing National Champions (6th year in a row), Keelboat National Champions (2nd year in a row), Qualified for Student Yachting World Cup (2nd year in a row), Won and qualified three spots at Laser North for MAISA Laser Championships, Qualified for War Memorial (first time in 6 years), and International Champions at the Student Yachting World Cup (1st place).
