Ottawa Invitational – October 17-18th, 2015:
On Saturday, we saw relatively strong winds and cold conditions. The wind was blowing about 15 knots with heavy gusts and it averaged 3 degrees temperature. In the A fleet, Geoff and Jeff started off the regatta strong, winning 3 races and finishing one with a close second. In the B fleet, Liam and Steph finished the day with three third place finishes and one second place.
The race course was a simple windward, leeward gate, windward, and downwind finish. The day ended relatively early because of the blistering cold, which was only made worse on the water with strong winds and 3 foot swells.
Sunday was exceptionally cold, with snow and hail and lows of -2 degrees. Due to the cold, only one rotation was ran. The wind was lighter on Sunday, around 7 or 8 knots, and extremely shifty. Queen’s came in 3rd and 2nd in the A fleet and similarly 3rd and 2nd in B fleet. Overall,
Queen’s won the A fleet, came third in B fleet, and finished third overall. Despite the cold, it was a great weekend and experience for the Sailing Team!
