Light and shifty

This past weekend, four of our women sailors participated in the MAISA Women’s Spring regatta. The event was hosted by St-Mary’s College of Maryland.

Following a ten hour drive, with Flurry Hogg at the “helm” of the car, our athletes were happy to find comfort at the hotel. Nicole Czegledy, Jackie Muru, Olivia Mew and Simone Larose were looking forward to being back on the water!

The first day of racing was marked by light winds and rain. Both teams strove to shake the rust off and find their groove. The wind dropped off around lunch time, and after some waiting on land the fleets returned to the water in hopes of getting all eight scheduled races in. Our sailors tried to focus on staying in phase with the patchy breeze but this proved to be difficult. The first day of racing finished just short of the scheduled races, and finished with soggy sailors.

The forecast for Sunday showed warmer and windier conditions. In fact, the sun showed up but not the breeze. It was a productive day of racing, both teams feeling like the rust had come off yesterday. Conditions were just as shifty and patchy as yesterday, but the warmer weather made it idyllic sailing.

Full scores here and here’s the official regatta report.
