CICSA Team Racing Nationals – October 24, 2015
Queen’s Sailing hosted Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing’s Team Racing National Championship. With seven teams participating in the three-on-three sailing competition, Queen’s was poised for our fifth consecutive national championship in the discipline.
The wind was light in the morning, but by the time boats were launching a fresh south breeze was in, and races began in no less than 15kts. By the time the Gaels were on for their first flight the wind was up in the twenties with a peak gust of 29.1kts.
True to form the Gaels thrived in the harsh conditions and convincingly won their first five races. As they waited for rotation to race six, a possible must win against Dalhousie Sailing, they watched as Concordia took a race from Dal to give Queen’s a guaranteed first place.
Queen’s went out and finished the round robin unbeaten, leaving no doubt who the champions were. The competition was fierce and in the end only one point separated each team from the place above them, but for the fifth year in a row, the Gaels are CICSA’s Team Racing Champions.
