Cornell Fall Regatta 2014

11th Place in a Tough Field

Simone Larose ‘17, Julia Manarin ‘17, Austin Stein ‘17 and Kieran Sadler ‘15 drove to Ithaca, NY on Friday evening, arriving around midnight.

Saturday

Racing began on Saturday with a Skippers/Crew meeting at 9:30 am. We arrived to a light Southerly breeze around 8-10 kph. Racing got underway at approx. 10:00am. The wind was oscillating, with rain coming down extremely hard at points.

While the rain began to move out of the area, The wind clocked about 180 degrees from the SE to the NW, and began to pick up considerably. After the last sailors from division A had crossed the finish of their 7th race, competitors returned to shore in a pretty heavy squall. The last race of the day was at approx 4:30pm.

Off-Water

Saturday evening, the team had dinner in Cornell’s Collegetown District. After seeking local advice, we ate a delicious meal at a popular eatery called The Nines. After dinner we all took it easy at the hotel. The mix of rain and cold had everyone pretty congested and sick.

Sunday

We arrived Sunday to a fairly light breeze out of the North that while fluky, held for a full, uninterrupted day of races. The wind ranged from 8-18kph throughout the course of the day, allowing for 5A, and 6B, races to be held. The total number of races held between the two days of sailing was 12A, and 12B races.
